Mechanical Engineering for Industrial Equipment, Retrofit, and Hydroelectric Projects

We provide PE licensed mechanical engineering support for contractors, manufacturers, and plant operators working on new projects as well as worn, legacy, or undocumented equipment.

Our services include reverse engineering, 3D scan-to-CAD modeling, and fabrication-ready mechanical design for projects where downtime, field conditions, and schedule matter.

From rebuilds and retrofit projects to custom components, we focus on practical, buildable solutions that move efficiently from design to fabrication and installation.

Accurate CAD and fabrication drawings developed from worn or undocumented components, using field data and 3D scans. Updated for improved function and modern standards.

Complete design packages with fabrication drawings and supporting engineering calculations for custom equipment, weldments, and industrial systems—developed for efficient fabrication and field installation.

Conversion of laser scan data into accurate CAD models for industrial equipment, piping, and parts where existing geometry is complex, or difficult to measure.

Have a complex part? We can employ finite element analysis (FEA) to validate and refine designs throughout the development process.

About Us

Factor Engineering is a mechanical engineering practice led by Drew Stefany, P.E., with over 14 years of experience supporting industrial equipment, hydroelectric facilities, and custom machinery.

We work with contractors, fabricators, and plant operators on projects involving existing equipment as well as new design—particularly where systems are worn, undocumented, or no longer supported by OEMs.

Much of this work involves interpreting real-world conditions and developing practical solutions that can be fabricated and installed reliably. This includes reconstructing existing components, working from scan data or limited information, and refining designs to account for field constraints.

The focus is on producing clear, buildable engineering deliverables—CAD models, fabrication drawings, and supporting calculations—that can be used directly in fabrication and construction.

Factor Engineering is a licensed Professional Engineering practice in California and Washington.
